A Sweet Day in Skjolden, Norway

Cruising the Norwegian Fjords aboard Sky Princess

After sailing through the awe-inspiring fjords of Norway, we arrived at one of the most serene and picturesque ports of our journey: Skjolden. Tucked away at the very end of the mighty Sognefjord — the longest and deepest fjord in the world — Skjolden feels like a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered.

The moment we stepped off the ship, we were greeted by a peaceful village surrounded by towering mountains, cascading waterfalls, and lush green landscapes. It felt like we had stepped into a painting. The stillness of the water, the crisp mountain air, and the unspoiled beauty of the surroundings created a sense of calm that’s hard to put into words.

We spent our day slowly wandering the quiet waterfront, taking in the dramatic scenery from every angle. The trails around the village are easy to navigate and perfect for a relaxing stroll, whether you’re looking to photograph nature or simply enjoy the moment.

One of the highlights of our time in Skjolden was stopping at a charming local café for a fresh Norwegian waffle, served warm with jam and a dollop of cream, alongside a steaming cup of hot chocolate. There’s something extra special about enjoying a sweet treat while overlooking a glacier-fed fjord — truly a taste of Norway in every sense.

While Skjolden may not be as well-known as some of the larger ports, it’s a place that lingers in your memory. The village’s tranquility and natural beauty offered a refreshing pause in our journey and reminded us of the quieter joys of travel.

Whether you’re planning a future cruise or simply dreaming of faraway places, Skjolden is one stop you won’t want to miss.
